| Mr. Shanmuga Prasad, VP, Syscon Instruments Pvt Ltd. |
A brief introduction about Syscon Instruments Pvt Ltd., Bangalore and the broad spectrum of products they produce and technical parameters of their plant capacity.
He introduced us to various processes in sensor manufacturing such as marking, bonding, clamping, curing, pot curing, wiring and temperature testing. He talked about challenges of mechanical vs electronic instruments and briefed us on different sensors and instruments like load cell, strain gauge and its types; transducers, TEDS protocol, HART protocol, torque sensors, accelerometers and encoders .
Next, he spoke about DAQ (Data Acquisition), its hardware overview and the various communication modes such as RS-485, ARINC429, MIL-1553 and the Zigbee. A detailed description about ATE (Automated Test Equipment), SPM (Special Purpose Machine), the requirements and challenges of the industry.

Focus of the day was LabVIEW, an important tool for professionals in the industry, which can be used for simulation and testing. Mr. Prasad encouraged all of us to work with LabVIEW irrespective of our engineering background. Furthermore, he briefed us about RTOS(real-time operating system ) and showed a video clip of the standing wave and an operation of a SPM test rig. Before, concluding the session a LabVIEW demo was given to the audience.

| About 150 students from various branches and semesters were in attendance |
The audience gained an insight into sensors & instrumentations, DAQ, ATE and LabVIEW. We got a basic idea of what is being done in sensor development, what DAQ is, what happens in ATE and how to use a LabVIEW.
There was a Q&A session where the students were able to have a fruitful discussion about interview process in core industries and discussions about recent trends in various fields of engineering at the Envision Lab ,post the Talk in the seminar hall.
In conclusion , as students we were able to catch a glimpse of how the industry works and what are the skills needed to upgrade yourselves keeping in mind the not to disregard the fundamentals we learn in our everyday classes.
